Col. Joy Dasgupta , SM was commissioned in 18 Grenadiers in march of 1996. He is an alumnus of Officers Training Academy, Chennai. The officer has a multi – dimensional operational experience right from conventional war during OP VIJAY (Kargil conflict- 1999) to intense Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The officer also has been part of UN peace keeping force.
Colonel Dasgupta is presently a part time TA officer and is associated with the Territorial Army. The glorified officer has a national recognition for bravery, leadership, and strategic planning because of his participation in operation Vijay, 1999 and leading several assaults primarily on features of Tiger Hill and capturing HUMP in Tololing on 12/13 June, 1999, for which his valiant act was recognized and awarded in a Gallantry medal in the line of duty.
Besides being a constant support for the Indian Army, he also regularly writes military articles on the issues of terrorism, information literacy, security related issues, Human Rights etc.

Having obtained his undergraduate degree in Agriculture from Kanpur University, he went on to pursue his post graduation in Livestock Economics from the renowned institute of IVRI, Bareilly and Ph.D. (Agril Economics) from GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar.
His present research and consultancy interests include, rural development strategic planting process, rural marketing, agribusiness environment management, quality management, agricultural services marketing management, land valuation, and land marketing along with his major research publications in the area of agribusiness rural development, land valuation, land marketing and rural marketing.
Dr. Awasthi is also a visitor’s nominee for IITs/NITs along with his prestigious membership in International Food and Agribusiness Management Association, World Academy of Humanities And Social Sciences, Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, and Indian society of Ecological Economics.
