As part of the Olympic Esports Finals, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to include the widely popular online game ‘Fortnite’. To be held in Singapore, the four-day Olympic Esports Week is a virtual extravaganza of gaming and virtual sports, created by the IOC. Additionally, ‘Fortnite can now be accessed on Amazon Luna cloud gaming service.
Supported by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), a sharpshooting competition will take place on a unique Fortnite Creative Island. A select group of twelve Fortnite Champion Series players will compete in this event. Additionally, Apple recently claimed triumph over Epic Games in an anti-trust legal battle.

The popularity of Epic Games’ battle royale, Fortnite, has propelled it to Olympic status. This marks a milestone in professional gaming’s upward trend, which has made it a legitimate career option and introduced it to the mainstream. The Fortnite Championship Series is the breeding ground for the top players who will compete at the Olympic level.
As per the official Olympic website, the Olympic Esports Series will be an invitational event. Unlike the Summer and Winter Olympic games, it won’t be organized every four years. The IOC collaborated with International Federations (IFs) and other game publishers to bring this event to life in 2023. Here’s what the website had to say:

An invitation-only competition is set to take place, featuring a dozen skilled players from the Fortnite Champion Series. The contest will be held on an International Shooting Sport Federation Island, specially crafted in Fortnite to mirror a real-life shooting arena. The tournament will measure the players’ accuracy in hitting targets, akin to those in a professional shooting competition.
The event won’t resemble an Olympic 100 PvP Battle Royale match, nor will it encompass all elements of the game. Rather, it will serve as a virtual simulation for shooting purposes.
“The International Olympic Committee announced the inclusion of ISSF’s Fortnite sport shooting island in the Olympic Esports Finals. Inviting 12 players from the 2023 Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS), the event will showcase the global competition.” Additionally, the Epic Games Store will be featuring Dying Light Enhanced Edition as their upcoming free game.
Nine games in the Olympic Esports Series accurately mirror real-world sports governed by international federations, encompassing Gran Turismo racing, Zwift cycling, Just Dance, and even web chess. This series is a continuation of the 2021 Olympic Virtual Series, where five digital sports were showcased.
As part of a broader initiative to engage with the gaming community and promote esports, the International Olympic Committee has demonstrated its support for the forthcoming Olympic Esports Week. Ticket sales have been launched for the 2023 competition series, with the first in-person finals taking place at the event.
Scheduled for June 22-25, 2023, the event will be held at the Suntec Centre in Singapore. A single-day pass will cost 10 SGD (approximately $7.50), while a three-day pass is priced at 20 SGD (roughly $15).
Scheduled for June 24th, the Fortnite competitive shooting games are set to begin.
