Every fiscal year, the Income Tax Department imposes certain regulations that taxpayers must comply with. This year, they have set a deadline of March 31st for taxpayers to link their Aadhaar and PAN cards, making it mandatory.

As of March 31st, 2022, taxpayers were not charged any fees for linking their Aadhaar and PAN. However, starting from April 1st to June 30th, 2022, a fee of Rs 500 was imposed. Subsequently, between July 1st, 2022, and March 31st, 2023, the fee increased to Rs 1000. The fee can be paid via the e-filing website.

In March 2022, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued a notification stating that taxpayers must link their Aadhaar with their permanent account number (PAN) by June 30th, 2023. Please do so to avoid PAN becoming inoperative from April 1st, 2023, rendering individuals incapable of conducting any financial transactions or PAN-related activities. According to the Income Tax Department’s tweet, all PAN holders, except those who are exempt, must link their PAN with their Aadhaar before June 30th, 2023, as per the IT Act, 1961. Please do so to avoid an inoperative PAN from Julyl 1st, 2023. So to avoid this, linking your PAN and Aadhaar today is essential.

Aadhaar PAN Card Linking Final Date: There has been an extension of three months for linking PAN cards and Aadhaar cards from March 31, 2023 to June 30, 2023. If you fail to link your PAN and Aadhaar cards, your PAN card will become inoperative.

Step-by-Step Guide to Link Your Aadhaar With PAN

  • Visit incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in to file your income tax electronically.
  • Click “Link Aadhaar” under “Quick Links” on the homepage.
  • PAN and Aadhaar numbers need to be entered.
  • Click “Continue to Pay Through e-Pay Tax.”
  • Receive an OTP by entering your PAN card number, confirming it, and entering your mobile number.

  • Once the details match, tap “link now” and enter your Aadhaar number.
  • You will see a pop-up message confirming the successful linking of Aadhaar and PAN.

  2. Verify your mobile number and PAN details with an OTP
  3. Once you verify your OTP, you will be redirected to a page with different payment options.
  4. To proceed with your income tax filing, click on “Proceed.”
  5. Choose the Assessment year and payment type for 2023-24.
  6. The amount must be entered under the “Others” field in tax break-up, and then follow the instructions.
