Reasons For Lexus To Discontinue The Best Car Ever Made

When we think of the Lexus car brand, most people think of well-equipped and comfortable luxury cars. Not a boring brand, but not a particularly interesting one either.

The LC 500 is a space-age show car, but it doesn't evoke the same thrills as Lamborghini or Ferrari.

But in 2009, Lexus announced a new flagship supercar, the Lexus LFA. The LFA is powered by a 4.8-liter V10 engine that produces 552 horsepower and a top speed of 202 mph. The same V10 produced a frankly insane 9000rpm.

It's not breaking news when Lamborghini is creating an unbalanced supercar with tremendous power. However, it's special that the very company that made your high school principal's RX 350 has created a high-revving racing monster.

In 2012, TV magazine Motorweek beat the LFA at the track, describing the car as "wild and unruly".

When it was founded, Toyota announced that it would only produce 500 LFA units. The clock just ticked as they rolled out of the factory. According to a press release at the time, every LFA produced was handcrafted by a special team of workers whose sole job was to create the best supercar in the world.

2012 was the LFA's last model year, but Lexus managed to get a new leftover car a few years later. 2019 saw the sale of a total of three new his LFAs from the inventory that the brand has had for over five years. In short, the LFA was discontinued due to poor sales.

When they were new, LFA supercar performance came at a price. According to Motorweek, his LFA that they tested was priced at $376,500. That's more than ten times the cost of his current Lexus UX SUV. If you want to buy a Lexus LFA today, you'll have to pay quite a lot.

Right now, Bring a Trailer has a 2012 Lexus LFA. This LFA is selling for an astonishing $725,000 and there is one week left to bid. In the future, it is possible that the LFA will be sold at an auction for a 7-digit price.

More than a decade ago, Lexus showed the world that it could produce more than a good sedan. They did what could be one of the best supercars ever. Requiescat on-face,  Lexus LFA
